BRENT BEERMAN
BRENT BEERMAN: A graduate of UCLA's MFA playwriting program, I have literally grown up on the stage. My father is a new music composer and performer, my mother is a dancer, and I have been their "roadie" for as long as I can remember. I consider myself a writer, a teacher and a director, but it's my parents eclectic influences that have always pointed me in the direction of multimedia, Avant Garde performance art. I am drawn to the use of traditional Greek choruses and I've experimented with lyrical dialogue looking for ways to include music. My work has been produced all over the world including Los Angeles, New York, Hong Kong and Armenia. I have written numerous full-length and one-act plays that have reached national acclaim. GABRIEL'S RAPTURE won the Corner Stage National Theater Contest and "Millionaires" opened in an off-Broadway house in New York City. DANCING IN THE SHADOWS won the Pacificus Foundation of Los Angeles Literary Award, was featured in the Los Angeles Playwright’s Festival, and has had a staged reading at the Moving Arts Theater in Los Angeles. In addition, I was commissioned to write a modernization of Dickens’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL for the Toledo Repertory Theater, an equity house. A JOURNEY OF ANGELS was presented at the Armenian Consulate in Glendale California, and my play 22% that focuses on the issues surrounding teen bullying has toured high schools across Southern California, and was optioned as a screenplay to the GOOD DEEDS PRODUCITONS. A DULL PAIN TURNED SHARP premiered at the Lonny Chapman Theater in North Hollywood and it was featured at the HOWL festival in New York City. My acting credits include "Saul" in AS IS, "Norman" in THE BOY NEXT DOOR, and "Officer O'Hara" in ARSENIC AND OLD LACE. I've extended my theatrical skills and passion into the classroom where I have been the Director of Theater at Crescenta Valley High School (CVHS) for the past twenty-eight years. At CVHS, we produce over 15 plays annually, bringing professional directors and actors into the classroom to work with teenagers to develop their artistry. I am also a member of the Group Rep Theater in North Hollywood and a part of the group's writing program. www.brentbeerman.com |
